hidden highway

driving on the ancient roads down South
the sun has burned my nose, i’ve got flies in my mouth.
sweat runs all the way down my back
i’m very glad that i’ve forgotten my fancy leather jacket.

the parking lot is full of strange vibrations
people are confused and ask for explainations.
i start my motorbike heading west
go to the mountains meet some friends try to do my best.

i hope we meet each other on the final day –
on the hidden highway.

the air is filled with very strange ideas
sometimes you’ll find hope but mostly you see tears.
the parking lot is still a mysterious place
and really nobody here knows who’s gonna start the entire race.

so I leave this place again now heading east
while thinking about emmylou at least.
many years ago we had a short romance
and it still breaks my heart in two when i think about our very last dance.

i hope we meet each other on the final day –
on the hidden highway.

all the people are still on the road
waiting for the day the world will explode.

i hope we meet each other on the final day –
on the hidden highway.
